Norwich City improved as a first division outfit during the 1998 – 1999 season, enjoying a top ten finish at the end of the campaign, finishing off in ninth position, narrowly missing out on a birth in the play offs.
Norwich had to settle for a mid table finish at the end of the 1999 – 2000 campaign as they finished it off in 12th position. They crashed out of the league cup in the second round of the competition as they suffered defeat against Fulham. They were also knocked out of the FA cup in the third round, suffering a 3-1 defeat against Coventry City.
Robert Green cemented his place in the Norwich City goal during the 2000 – 2001 league season; however they were poor and struggled to a disappointing 15th place finish at the end of the campaign.
Nigel Worthington guided the club to a much improved finish at the end of the 2001 – 2002 season as they enjoyed a fine run that saw them finish off the campaign in sixth position, however failed to gain promotion via the play offs competition. They were knocked out of the league cup early on, suffering defeat against Brentford in the first round.
Craig Fleming and Iwan Roberts were in terrific form for the club through out the campaign.
