Ken Brown led Norwich City straight back in to the first division at the end of the 1985 – 1986 season as they finished it off as second division champions. They crashed out of the league cup in the fourth round; suffering defeat against Oxford United in a competition they had won the previous year.
Norwich City embarked on their finest ever season at that point in the history of their club football as they were emphatic in the first division, finishing it off in fifth position. They crashed out of the FA Cup in the fourth round as they suffered defeat against Wigan Athletic in the competition.
Dave Stringer took over as manager of the club in 1987 and their 1987 – 1988 first division campaign proved to be a fine one, finishing it off in a decent 14th place finish in the first division.
Stringer introduced attractive attacking football in to the club during the late 1980’s and his second and third seasons in charge at the club saw Norwich City finish off in fourth and tenth positions respectively. The 1988 – 9189 season saw Norwich challenge for the title and they were in emphatic form in the FA cup, reaching the semi finals of the competition, suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat at Villa Park against Everton.
The Norwich City football side of the 1989 – 1990 season included, Bryan Gunn, Ian Culverhouse, Mark Bowen, Ian Butterworth, Andy Linighan, Andy Townsend, Dale Gordon, Robert Fleck, Robert Rosario, Ian Crook and David Phillips.
